Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
This historic event has been traced back to its beginnings around 1926. This was the Main Street Association’s first year in hosting the event, and it was deemed a great success! The town supplied new LED lights for the tree, and Douglas County PUD volunteered to hang them on a beautifully shaped fir tree on SR2 in downtown Waterville.
Hot cocoa and cider, along with homemade cookies were offered to the numerous families that attended. The Waterville United Lutheran Church’s musicians led the crowd in traditional holiday songs, and Mayor DeVaney “threw the switch” after the countdown to light the tree.
The Waterville Main Street Association was pleased with the turnout, and are looking forward to hosting it again next year.
